Household Income and Coverage Levels

Coverage under the CDCP is based on your adjusted family net income, which is assessed through your most recent tax return:

Adjusted Family Net Income CDCP Covers You Cover (Co-payment)
Under $70,000 100% of eligible services at CDCP rates 0% (you may still face additional fees)
$70,000 – $79,999 60% of eligible services at CDCP rates 40% of CDCP rates
$80,000 – $89,999 40% of eligible services at CDCP rates 60% of CDCP rates

Note: Our office may charge more than CDCP's established fees. Any additional cost is your responsibility. Always confirm coverage and fees with our office before receiving care.

What Treatments Are Covered?

Eligible CDCP patients may have coverage for select dental treatments based on their individual eligibility, benefit level, and the type of treatment provided. Coverage may vary, and some treatments may require preauthorization before care begins. Our team can help you understand which covered treatments may apply to your visit and what to expect before treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about the Canadian Dental Care Plan and how it may apply to your treatment at Ottawa Dental Care.

  • What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal program designed to help eligible Canadian residents access dental care if they do not have private dental insurance. The plan provides partial or full coverage for certain dental treatments depending on household income. Coverage is determined based on your adjusted family net income and eligibility requirements set by the Government of Canada.

  • How do I know if I qualify for CDCP?

You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan if you meet several requirements. These typically include having no access to private dental insurance, filing a Canadian tax return for the previous year, having an adjusted family net income under $90,000, and being a Canadian resident for tax purposes. Eligibility is confirmed during the application process.

  • What types of dental treatments are covered under CDCP?

The CDCP may cover a range of dental treatments including exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, fillings, root canals, dentures, and some oral surgery procedures. Some treatments require preauthorization before they can be completed. Coverage levels and approval depend on eligibility and the specific treatment being recommended.

  • Will I need to pay anything if I have CDCP coverage?

Depending on your household income, you may still be responsible for a portion of the treatment cost. Some patients receive full coverage for eligible services, while others may have a co payment. In addition, if treatment costs exceed the CDCP fee guide, there may be additional out of pocket expenses.

  • How do I apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

Applications for the CDCP are completed through the Government of Canada. After your application is approved, you will receive a letter confirming your membership details and benefit start date. You will also receive a member card through Sun Life, which can be used when scheduling dental appointments.
